Storage is one of my most favourite things, so IKEA is therefore one of my most favourite places. I imagine most people have had one of these IKEA chests of drawers at some point in my life. I got mine when I was about 11 years old and therefore my mum painted in silver and pink to match my bedroom. On a recent trip down to visit my parents I saw this in my old bedroom and decided to take it and give it a wee makeover.
The old pink and silver design:
Unfortunately it looks like IKEA have stopped selling these drawers, however they do have a similar version which could also be painted. Hopefully they’ll release more of the old design soon. To begin the makeover, I used the emulsion paint we’ve used for our walls in our flat as a base colour.
After two coats I left them to dry overnight.
Next I bought some tester paint pots from Asda, only £1 each, to use for the designs on the drawers.
I’m really happy with how these turned out and it was so easy and cheap to do. The drawers are now in our bathroom and home to my makeup collection; a drawer for eyes, lips, foundation, daily makeup, bits and bobs and hair clips. Now I need to think of what I’m going to do next…
