I’ve always loved airports and the beginning of Love Actually perfectly sums up why…

Firstly, here are some surprising Edinburgh Airport facts:

  • Scotland’s busiest airport ✈
  • Over 200,000 passengers were expected to travel through the airport in the two weeks over the festive period
  • Edinburgh airport’s retail offering has grown over 40% in the past year
  • Outlets offer Tax Free prices or 20% discount compared to the high street
  • Dixons Travel offer web-beating prices, coming in cheaper than John Lewis, Amazon or Argos
  • Dixons Travel will also reserve your product in advance of your travel date, if requested
  • World Duty Free – champagne, fragrance and malt whisky all 20% cheaper than the high street

As we were jetting off on our honeymoon on 21st December to Australia, my new husband and I were set the task of buying each other a last minute surprise gift from Edinburgh Airport. So, what did we get?

Now the obvious choices here would be a bottle of booze or some perfume (both excellent gifts of course!), but we decided to look a little further afield.

We scanned the ever expanding variety of shops, from Superdrug to Dixons and Next to Accessorize, to seek out that special last minute gift for each other before we flew away.

His gift

My husband loves a v-neck sweater – and I love him in a v-neck! So I decided to get my husband this gorgeous petrol blue one from Hugo Boss. The staff in the shop were so lovely and helpful in searching for his size.

We were in Sydney for Christmas day and it’s safe to say that he loved his gift ❤

My gift

My gift was an absolute winner! Handbags are one of my many weaknesses – I don’t think you can ever have enough. I was hoping to get a new bag so I purposefully just took a very small one as my hand luggage so I could transfer into a new bag. There are lots of places in Edinburgh Airport to shop for bags including Accessorize,  Kurt Geiger and Michael Kors.

This gorgeous plum coloured handbag was my gift from the Kurt Geiger shop in Edinburgh airport 😍 It was actually on sale so pretty affordable at about  £80.

Other retailers in the airport include:

  • World Duty Free
  • Michael Kors
  • The Watch Collection
  • Jo Malone
  • Kurt Geiger
  • Hugo Boss
  • Max Mara Weekend
  • Scottish Fine Gifts
  • Brora

We frequently fly from Edinburgh Airport and had I been offered this opportunity a couple years ago,  it wouldn’t have been the same experience. It has been seriously revamped recently with the addition of lots of new shops and eateries. The security area has also been improved and streamlined to speed things up and reduce any hassle.

Getting to the airport is also easier with the addition of the trams. As we were flying to Oz at 7am, we actually treated ourselves to a taxi there using City Cabs. The journey was really quick and cost about £27 to get there from Leith. The airport bus is also easy and quick to get from Waverley train station or other stops.

I’m a serial snacker when I fly so I love the huge new Superdrug in the airport. It’s perfect for grabbing some cheap water, Monster Munch and Jelly Babies (or Santa Babies) for the flight. Or some last minute shampoo if you forgot it!

So if you’re jetting off from Edinburgh in the new year or next Christmas then I definitely recommend thinking of getting any last minute gifts from the airport, or just get in the holiday spirit by treating yourself. This way you’ll have more space in your suitcase (which I always need!) and you might even get a bargain.
