Back in Autumn of 2017 (remember 2017? Me neither!) Soul Retreat burst onto the spa and beauty scene in Edinburgh. Before I go any further, I must disclose that this awesomely fabulous spa was created by 2 of my sisters-in-law but honestly, if it was crap I just wouldn’t write about it! If you still don’t trust that my judgement is unbiased, go and visit and find out for yourself!

Edinburgh’s new urban spa offers a range of hair and beauty treatments, yoga classes and wellbeing workshops. Their opening day was a huge success last year and offered a range of sample treatments to get a flavour of what they were all about. Whenever I tell people about the spa’s location – at a very well-known junction at Fairmilehead – everyone who lives in Edinburgh knows where it is.

Today I popped along for a much needed and overdue hair colour treatment. Many months ago I went for the balayage look which basically meant I didn’t suffer from unsightly roots and could, therefore, be lazy and not need to get my hair dyed for a while. Unfortunately, this doesn’t last forever and I started to realise just how much I needed a revamp when looking at photos. I’m also now 30 weeks pregnant and starting to feel a little self-conscious about my changing body so I definitely needed some pampering.

I messaged my sister-in-law, Chelsea, and booked my Saturday morning appointment at Soul Retreat. Although the salon is on the opposite side of Edinburgh to where I live in Leith, the no.11 bus takes you right to the door or there is actually free on-street parking around the corner, so I just drove up.

I settled into the hair salon area of the spa and enjoyed a wee cup of tea while Chelsea and I chatted about what I wanted to do. Basically, I just wanted to lighten it all up and get rid of the drastic colour step from the balayage. She also told me about the OWay products that they use which are organically produced on farms in Italy and free from harmful chemicals and come in packaging which is 100% recycled to help protect the environment. So not only was I getting fabulous new hair but I was also improving my carbon footprint. 😉

The vibe in the whole spa is really chilled out and relaxing. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and encourages you to unwind and have a bit of ‘me time’. I was delighted with my new hair and felt lovely and refreshed as I drove home to enjoy the rest of my weekend.

If you do pop along for some relaxing and pampering, I’d love to hear how you get on!
