As I enter the home straight in the weeks running up to the big day I thought I’d share some more of the things I’ve learnt over the past year. I was planning on blogging a lot more about wedding planning but to be honest, I’ve never been so busy, tired and fatigued in my whole life as I have this past year. It has been super stressful but I know 100% that it will be worth it.

So if you’ve just got engaged or you’re already in the depths of wedding planning, here are a few of my bride-to-be tips…

Honest wedding planning tips

Always remember why

What is the one reason why you’re getting married?

This shouldn’t be a difficult question but when you’re knee deep in unrealistic Pinterest dreaming, it can be easy to forget it. My reason is that I love my other half and want to commit to spending the rest of our lives together, through the difficult times and the happy times. Honestly, I don’t care about the rest. Okay, I do but I’ve found that as long as I keep reminding myself of this one goal of our wedding day then everything else will be okay and all fall into place. Don’t worry!

Everything will be more than okay

I know the day will be amazing and all the little details such as table numbers, flowers and the cake won’t matter. Even if it pours with rain the whole day, it will still be a day to remember for all the right reasons. We’ll be declaring our love for each other and spending the best day of our lives with all the people we love most in the world. Everything else is an added bonus!

Nothing compares, to yoooouu 🎵

Be careful not to compare your own wedding to others. And be warned that other people will do this for you anyway!

Panic and doubt are only natural

Now I’m not talking about doubting whether I should be marrying my other half, I have absolutely no doubts about that! It’s only natural to have a wobble about your decorations, dress, favours, shoes, hair… basically everything! Trust me, I’ve doubted and worried about absolutely everything!

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I massively doubted my wedding dress the day after I bought it. After having spoken to lots of other brides and brides-to-be I found I’m not alone in this. To be honest, I don’t know if there is any wedding dress in the whole world that I would love as much as I believed I should. I’ve come to terms with this and I’ve had my dress altered so I at least feel beautiful in it. My advice here would be try on as many wedding dresses as you can and don’t rush into it. Find the silhouette you want your dress to give you and everything else can be built around that.

Everyone has an opinion on everything

We’ve struggled with this quite a bit when planning our wedding. I’m not going to go into it too much but just be warned, from the second you get engaged everyone will have an opinion about what you should do for your wedding. And they’ll be sure to tell you!

Scenario one:

Are you not getting a car?

No, the venue is a 30 second walk from the accommodation.

But a car’s tradition. Could you not just get a car?

No, we don’t want a car.

But why not?

Scenario two:

You’re having a cake of cheese rather than a traditional cake? That’s weird!

We don’t like cake and this is what we want.

But what will everyone eat?

We’re giving them a three course meal, another meal later and… wait, why am I justifying myself?!

Trust me, there have been many, many more like this! We know why we’ve made all the decisions we have and we’re 100% happy with OUR wedding plans.

Pinterest is a blessing and a curse

I’ve loved planning our wedding using Pinterest but I’ve also experienced the darker side. Most things you see in these dreamy photos can just lead to major disappointment. Let me refer back to my wedding dress for a moment. I’ve had it tailored so I should have the silhouette of these beautiful brides I’ve pinned. In reality, they’re probably standing on top of a box to make them look ridiculously slender, they aren’t standing in natural poses and they are probably photoshopped. Don’t compare yourself to these “brides”.

Bring on the wedding!

So if you’ve just started planning your wedding then please, please try not to worry. It might be a bit of a rocky road to get to the big day but it will be the best day of your life no matter what! I’ll update you all after the end of July to confirm this.

Happy wedding planning!
